Understanding & Defeating Armpit Odor
The armpit is one of the more unique areas on your body. It's skin is relatively thinner, warmer, and moist. Combined with constant friction from clothing and your arm, the armpit is one of the most sensitive areas of the body. All of this creates the perfect environment for bacteria, and where there is bacteria and sweat, there is stink. This post will be more layman in nature and less nitty-gritty so you don't fall asleep.
Diet & Intake
The single most effective thing you can do to curb armpit odor is a clean diet. Ultra-processed junk food will make your armpits stink more than clean foods. Nothing, however, will make your armpits stink more than excessive alcohol. Going completely sober and incorporating a lot of fruit into your diet will dramatically improve your armpit stink. Fasting is also a consideration, as it is the most effective way to detox the body. This is highly recommended for particularly unhealthy people, both dietary wise and substance wise. Initially in fasting you may experience worse odor as a byproduct of the detox. Once your body is clean however, the bacteria will have almost nothing to munch on. This paired with some personal hygiene will get your pit situation largely under control.
Personal Hygiene
Pretty predictable here, staying clean will assist lowering your armpit odor. Remember, sweat in and of itself is pretty much odorless. It only becomes a problem when bacteria interacts with it. This is why after an intense workout, your forearms covered in sweat do not really stink at all, whereas your armpits may be brutal. The environment of the pit is perfect for bacteria, the forearms much less so. Armpit bacteria needs to be destroyed or starved, and the naturally high pH of soap does the destroying (antiperspirant does the starving in commercial deodorant). This is why bar soap actually works as intended, and also keeps bacteria from proliferating until the pH naturally lowers again over time.
Our Carbon Deodorant is not an antiperspirant for other health reasons, so how does it fight armpit odor? The matrix we developed is primarily antimicrobial and antibacterial. Many components of the ingredients in CD penetrate the cell membranes of bacteria, eventually causing the cell to die. On top of this, the activated carbon/charcoal acts as a sponge, absorbing moisture, bacteria, and odor fighting compounds, forcing them to interact. Essentially, on a microscopic scale, the carbon is acting as a local battlefield with a black hole attraction effect. This aids throughout the day in fighting armpit odor, but the biggest shift in lower odor is when the saturated carbon is washed off in the shower. You see, the deodorant does kill the odor producing bacteria to a decent degree, but dead bacteria still stinks. Once this dead bacteria is physically removed, only then will you have a period of true armpit odor serenity. Of course the cycle repeats: the pH eventually lowers after your shower, your pit will get warm and wet again, bacteria proliferates, and the battle is back on. This is called life.
Conclusion
Get clean, eat clean, drink very little alcohol or none at all, and actually wash your armpits in the shower. We could have introduced aluminum into CD to starve the bacteria to death (by creating a dry environment), but that would would be a health compromise in other aspects. CD is special because of what it is: a completely natural, skin safe deodorant that goes on smooth and clear. It is rare because the armpit is the most challenging area for artisans to deal with naturally and safely, which is not a concern for the big commercial brands.
If you are someone that has always struggled with armpit odor, perhaps more than your peers, there is more than likely a particular reason. No, it isn't your genes, it is something you are either neglecting or abusing - hygiene, diet, or substances. That is good news, because you have control over those.
